In June, we will have a session about WCBD. If you have any questions about the tool you  can submit them here. The questions will be shared with the speaker  beforehand and she will answer them in the session.

We had used BODL as a standalone utility in version 6. Have created custom build scripts for BODL. As data load utility comes bundled with v7, would you recommend customisig WCBD to include data load utility related build process as well?

Thanks,

Srini

The data load utility is supported by latest version of WCBD. You shouldn’t need to customize WCBD in order to make data load utility calls.

Q 1. Is it as easy to "rollback" a deployment?
Ans. It can be done by restoring backups. The WCBD tool supports system backup as a step of deployment.

Q 2. Is there a way to validate a deployment by associating some sanity checks or tests?
Ans. The log files can help you to verify if tasks are run successfully. Also, you can consider implementing Unit Test or regression test cases to run as part of deployment process to help ensure functionalities are still there after deployment.

Q 3. Does it have facility to enable tracing if we want to debug the deployment process?
Ans. The WCBD tool supports logging and tracing. To enable verbose mode, provide either the -v or -verbose option when calling the wcbd-ant. Likewise, to enable debug mode, provide either the -d or -debug option when calling the wcbd-ant.

Q 4. We are in the process of upgrading from commerce 6 to 7 and hence we are upgrading from BANDD to WCBD. Our CM team manages the build & deploy. As a development team lead, what I need to be aware of?
Ans. Migrating from BANDD to WCBD is not straight forward. There will be investigation on implementing the functions by using WCBD. The good thing is that most of the functionalities that were supported by BANDD are also supported by WCBD.

Q 5. Is there support for deployment of static content to webservers?
Ans. Yes, OOTB.

Q 6. Is there any OOB way of supporting applying dbcr at the time of deployment or one has to write custom ant task.
Ans. I think we can say it is supported OOTB. WCBD supports running SQL file as part of data load process. If the DB change request can be implemented using a SQL file, custom ant task shouldn't be needed.

Q 7. Does WCDB need just a toolkit installation or full server installation on the build machine?
Ans. The WCBD build works with either toolkit or server installation.
