When you think of migrating from one version to another, the most important phase is planning. During these planning meeting, we first need to collect what feastures, functionalities and applicaitons we are currently using and then check the compatibility with the new version. General practise is to use an excel sheet and note down each and every aspect of the current environment.
After the data collection from the previous environment, we tend to put our expectations on the new version. like what we are expecting after the migration. This expectations are also need to be documented.
Now all the teams need to learn atleast briefly about the new version, limitations, risks involved etc.. before you start the migration.
also you note the recomended setting, tuning recomendations etc.. to test on the new version in POC.
Once the above phases are complete, you do a POC or test to check any issues with code, applications etc.. on the new updagraded version.
IBM support site has published some worksheets, which has all he all the above mentioned activities listed in order. These works sheets are great help during the planning of the migration.
The works sheets can be downloaded from IBM support site @
