Leif Davidsen is the Senior Product Manager for the WebSphere Messaging portfolio in IBM. Leif has worked at IBM's Hursley Lab since 1989, having joined with a degree in Computer Science from the University of London. Leif has had a varied IBM career, but for the last 13 years has been focusing on Product Management and Product Marketing for WebSphere. Most recent roles prior to his current one include Product Manager for WebSphere Message Broker; Worldwide Marketing Manager for WebSphere Connectivity; Marketing lead for SOA Reuse & Connectivity and Industry focused marketing for WebSphere Connectivity. Learn how to use IBM Worklight to develop a hybrid Android app that sends and receives messages using MQTT. The MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol is a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging protocol, designed specifically for sending data over networks where connectivity is intermittent or bandwidth is at a premium. In this webcast you will:

  • Understand when to use MQTT for your mobile messaging and its advantages over HTTP

  • See a live coding session on how to develop the app itself in HTML and Javascript, and to use the Cordova (PhoneGap) libraries provided with Worklight to interface to native code that implements the MQTT protocol

 David Dhuyvetter is a Senior Managing Consultant in the WebSphere Enablement team.  With IBM since 2000, David has over 15 years experience in distributed transactional systems.  Through his time with IBM, David has maintained a strong focus on connectivity and integration, specializing in WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus and WebSphere Message Broker.  In early 2012, David took on mobile application development, and has been delivering targeted demos and customer education highlighting the capabilities of IBM Worklight. David co-authored a number of Redbooks, and blogs about mobile application development topics at developerWorks.  David received his Master of Science in Computer Science from
