New Whitepaper: Unraveling the Mystery: How to Predict Application Performance Problems
The GWC has posted a new whitepaper from Nastel Technologies titled Unraveling the Mystery: How to Predict Application Performance Problems.

Read this whitepaper to learn how to:

  • Uncover problems before users are impacted and resolve them before the pain is felt
  • Combine complex event processing, transaction flow and analytics allows organizations to express multifaceted business conditions and apply them to a complex system
  • Determine “normal” vs. “abnormal” application behavior

Software Product Compatibility Reports Now Available!
The Software Product Compatibility Report tool is now available on the Support Portal. Expand the Support Resources link on the right side of the page and choose Software Product Compatibility Reports. You can easily generate custom reports about a product's compatibility with operating systems, prerequisite software, virtualization environments, and end of service dates.

The End of Service report, for example, provides users with an overall picture of their products' service window. Users can specify their product(s) of interest in an easy to use search facility which will generate a report displaying each product's life cycle window, starting at the product's general availability date and ending at the product's end of service date. This report also highlights the common service window for all the selected products as well as any support gaps that may exist in the solution.

Customers who currently use the IBM Software Support Lifecycle web page can now view the same software support information in a comprehensible and easy to read report format. The End of Service reports will allow customers and customer representatives to effectively plan for upgrades to their environment while also helping the customer understand the full value of their software investment.

Please take a moment to complete the Feedback survey on left, bottom of the report's page.

System z Users — Welcome to the Service Request Tool!
The next generation of IBM's electronic problem reporting tool just introduced the latest enhancement — incorporating System z users into the IBM Service Request (SR) tool. ETR problem reporting functions migrated to this new version of Service Request tool in January.

This significant enhancement follows IBM's Technical Support Transformation strategy of moving to one electronic problem reporting tool within the IBM Support Portal. The 'Service Request' link is found at the left bottom of the Support Portal page. The Electronic Technical Response application on ServiceLink will continue to be available for a minimum of 60 days to allow a smooth transition for our users.

The enhancements featured in SR include:

  • Ability to search through archived service requests
  • A new efficient search of products and components for creating either usage or defect service requests
  • Enhanced system reliability and availability
  • Ability to save new service requests as drafts for subsequent submission and reuse
  • An organized Problem Description page that makes it easier to submit related data files
  • A single, consistent web based problem submission tool for any IBM software product

Please review the Service Request videos to learn about the Support Portal and the Service Request tool.

IBM + Lombardi Brings Collaborative BPM to Business Users
A lot has happened in Lombardi's first year as an IBM company, as the two companies integrated their business process management (BPM) capabilities and their BPM teams to help business analysts, business users and IT professionals easily collaborate to improve business processes. Read about the resulting offerings, including a unique cloud offering that fills a gap in BPM tools by helping business users quickly automate the simple processes they conduct over email, or spreadsheet and document attachments. These ad-hoc processes make up 75% of processes used today by IBM's clients. See how University College London Hospitals applied BPM technologies to meet government mandates and improve patient care.

Modernizing CICS – COBOL Applications: Myth or Reality? Discover How Business Rules Can Help
Businesses are consistent: They want to reduce the costs of application maintenance and IT integration. But they also want IT to respond faster, which requires faster discovery and adoption of rules that govern business decisions. The challenge is that over time business policies and rules have been encoded in applications and databases during development, making them increasingly complex. Enterprise modernization is a practical and cost-effective alternative to ripping and replacing these core systems. It also requires going beyond looking at technology assets only in terms of code and applications, to consider the critical importance of the people, teams and infrastructure that build, maintain and deploy those assets.

By addressing all four areas — applications, people, teams and infrastructure — you’ll find ways to leverage existing assets more effectively. We’ll show you how this approach works from the business rules perspective, while focusing on applications that are most important to your business goals.

Join us for this complimentary webcast to learn about:

  • What to consider when modernizing a business critical application written in CICS® - COBOL?
  • When to consider rule mining from code in your application modernization project
  • How to get the value you are looking for by applying business-rule-based modernization

Speakers:

  • Richard Szulewski, Rational® Product Manager for System z®, IBM Software Group
  • Janet Wall, Product Manager, Business Rule Management Services, IBM Software Group
